ACP

Two of my friends celebrated their birthday at the Red Lobster restaurant in The Dubai Mall last weekend. Little did we know that the mall's 10th year anniversary has been happening for a while now. Thus after the dinner, since my friends are kind of competitive, we joined their anniversary contest via Instagram and we made sure we gave the other participants a run for, well, not for the money but cellphone batteries. Haha! Unfortunately random picking of winners over a thousand of participants per day is just way too impossible! Regardless of the result, the highlight of the night wasn't the contest neither the gorgeous lobsters we ate for dinner but these aluminum composite panel (ACP) finish in these (planted) columns at the entrance of the mall along Financial Center road.

ACP, for your information, is an easy-forming material that allows for any innovative design just like the seemed to be flower shape columns without compromising the durability and aesthetic. This material though do not have a good fire-resistant property (unless specially treated), the use of it is very limited as a building material for dwellings. Nevertheless, great buildings with this finish has always the cutting edge appeal because of the technique. See sample structure here.
