Natural Light

The thing with natural light design, it varies depending on where the building is located. Natural light in architecture brings an added effectiveness as a fundamental part of the design.

I took these photos last March of 2018 using my blackberry passport. Yes, a throwback snaps from a not so throwback smartphone. Hehe. It was the town square’s roof design of JW Marriot Dubai in Deira. By the way, I googled the hotel and it showed that it is currently closed since May of this year. I am just not sure as of today if the hotel will reopen again or will permanently suspend its operation.

Moving on, to design natural light, it is important to analyze the light entering the building. Whether small or a large project, the designer needs to consider its geographical location. Factors such as the seasons, type of sky, location of windows and openings, building orientation in relation to the sun and the clearance around the buildings are the most prominent. JW Marriot’s roof design probably followed these factors. Too bad, I wasn’t able to witness the “zenithal light” because we went there at night to dine at one of their fancy restaurants (thanks to Cobone discounts, ugh!).
