Ceiling Baffles

Several days ago, I was with a friend at Swissotel Hotel and Resort for his business meeting. I know he’ll take more than an hour or so but still went with him because I wanted to gaze upon and metaphorically touch the 5-star hotel’s interior design.

Above photos on earth tones with great acoustics.

In a well-designed hotel lobby, comfort and privacy as well as the anticipation of silent conversations are vital to control noise level and create a welcoming ambiance. Though it’s already welcoming because of the color pallet, the acoustic design using sound baffles on walls and in ceiling (to deflect sound waves and prevent echoes) were designed flawlessly, - I might add, they were imparting more character to the area. I just thought, adding curves always creates fluidity which liberates not only the interior design but also frees the eyes to an extent of abyss just by gazing (or is it really just me?). For sure without these baffles, echoes in high-ceilinged and large open space will arise. I could just imagine the lady in her rose-colored power suit near to my table (where I composed this blog) who talked in a very croaky but high-pitched voice, people could’ve gotten irritated by her naturally produced high-frequency noise.

And oh, the plants were real. They are not just for embellishment because plants can absorb and deflect sound waves too. I’m not sure about what specific species but trust me, I’m definitely going to figure it out first hand by talking to our indoor plants at home.
