Lighting To Define A Space

Whenever my friends don’t have the luxury of time (or money) on an out-of-town travel, we take day trips or an overnight stay somewhere around town to celebrate any occasion. Usually we go to the mall where in we would always be distracted by any season sale. Since it was one of my friend’s birthday, we ditched the mall and she decided to book an overnight stay at Rove at the Park. Talk about staying overnight and an almost a day that you’re out, I would instantly check if the hotel leisure facilities includes a fitness center. And oh boy, a 24-hour gym is included.

The facility was obviously recently constructed (and so as the 3-star hotel) based by the looks of it and the “new construction scent” like as if the mixture of chemical is evaporating from the new paint or flooring or whichever new building materials my fussy nose can sense. I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing, I like chemicals. Haha! Kidding aside, I only have my eyes fixed on two things: my workout form and
the ceiling.

Typically, a gym doesn’t have a partition unless the area allocated for the design has a column to which the Architect has to design it like the second photo. Nonetheless the design is always an open zone for multi-use. But how exactly do you define a space without a wall? In general, area rug is the quickest (and cheapest), furniture (or gym equipment) arrangement, color and room dividers works well to give space a more specific character. I personally suppose that the most often ignored and one of the most useful means to define a space is through lighting. Though tricky, the use of arcing floor lamps, wall sconces and even the lighting level can be a subtle way to play with illumination and space. As regards to the above photos, the running pendant light is clearly an obvious technique to separate an area. (Not to mention how dope and ultra-modern it is to design with matte painted wire mesh as an extension accessory of the industrial type of ceiling design)

Anyway, I had a bloody serious detonation during my workout session (and taking photos of the gym). I had several snaps but decided to post and blog only two. They also have quite a few unconventional statement ceiling and walls around the interiors of the hotel that are super insta-worthy! Whoops. I guess you have to go and see for yourself everything the hotel offers for a very cheap booking price. Details, here.

(I mentioned earlier that we “ditched the mall” but the ladies still went to splash out at a near outlet center to relax. Haha!)
