Memory is a Fickle Thing

Have you tried to retrace yourself just because you can’t remember where your car keys went? Well, I have not lost any car keys yet because I still don’t own one. And have you experienced having a hard time recalling what you did for the first couple of hours in the morning? It’s a fiasco. But the point is, memory is fleeting and is a fickle thing — and no one forgets about that, if that makes sense.

From my last blog, I shared that I am currently on vacation in the Philippines and unfortunately having a few days left to enjoy because this week I will travel back to Dubai again. I have not seen a lot of old friends, maybe next year would do if time permits but I had a blast from the get go, like, literally had me gasping for joy making memories particularly with my family. Sure, it was a fulfilling moment while it lasted because as they say memory is fleeting. But is that supposed to be sad? Well, it’s a mental file storage of experiences but needs expanding and sometimes by expanding means letting go of some. But the thing is, this process helps us to create new route and forge our identity better to be a better person through memories and experiences.

To that being said, I posted a lot of shots on my instagram account (@dopeceiling) but these are few of my favorites.

The first photo was at a random cafe’s cozy interior. Then second photo was taken in the Venice Piazza Grand Canal mall at Mc Kinley Hills Taguig. I was with my family though my father was not in his element to come with us but that’s fine. Gosh, I remembered my 2023 vacation and that narrative touched by my mother, unforgettable. Third shot was a huge hinged Santa Claus because apparently the Philippines starts Christmas celebration on September which is obviously the start of “BER” months, you know a cultural thing loved by Filipinos. And of course, my photo when I visited the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. It was drizzling but a photo opt is larger than life, always. Teehee.

I love these photos so much. I thought the vibe of the above shot was incredible. I honestly seized the time I captured that moment because I know we are all bound to lose what we are holding now — literally and figuratively. Thus we let go of the bad and feel strongly to live from moment to moment.

Before I forget, a not so throwback photo of mine a few months ago (at Sofitel Obelisk Dubai) that I needed to post just because it’s my 1001st milestone update on Instagram.

See you summer 2025, fingers crossed!
