Core Memory Gone Silly

“My age is still on the calendar!” I remember that moment when Annie, my teacher playfully uttered that phrase when her co-teacher, Theresa teased her about her marrying age pertaining to the single and good-looking Paul, the tour guide of our school field trip. How's Life Treating You?

Just this morning, I casually asked myself a question in front of the mirror: how’s life treating you, Dennis? After less than a minute, I saw a deformation of the bone structure of my face – that’s fantastical. More mysterious enough, however, I saw a strange face – the other face which I found weird and astonishing, uhm. Technically, we are part of the world that doesn’t act upon our existence, you know what I mean? I’m like a person on a boat floating down the river, but because I know how to row into a specific direction, I sometimes have the misapprehension of control. Yes, I’m in control of my life given all the bad choices that I could have prevented. But hey, I recognized that I need to act quickly, rather than drag my life into a mess. This just proves, the river current wins through. Meaning, the world affects who we are, who I am, because I like to be in control. Trip To Jerusalem 2023 Part 3

The cityscape of Jerusalem I don’t need to elaborate history but as expected, traveling Israel from the UAE is not a piece of cake. We had separate interviews even before we check in our things in Dubai terminal airport alone. We haven’t done anything yet, and yes, before checking in there’s a separate lobby with 6 freestanding single counters (about 6 feet away from each one) where you’ll be interviewed by a security personnel. Imagine my anxiety when I was interviewed about myself, my job position, years of stay in Dubai and how I’m related to my friends I was traveling with. But worry not, nothing life threatening; the lady security (or whatever her position was) who seemed nice and collected shared that the interview is for everyone’s safety. We understood and respected the protocol but took us more than half an hour before we were given the badge (a small piece of paper with some numbers printed on it).
